Flar says everyone he talks to is of the same opinion: dress codes get implemented in schools because of what the girls are wearing.

The latest missive from TLS:

Dear Lower School Families,

We are asking that lower school girls refrain from wearing artificial
fingernails to school. They can be a distraction at school, and Nurse
Beers warns us that there are possible health issues, as well. Thank
you for understanding and for helping with this.

Sincerely,
Lower School Head

Wow, I have to say that's a bit ridiculous.

Although I'm all for the one that says they should wear belts. I just had a student come in shorts where I could see more of his underware (which was in dire need of cleaning...UGH) than his street clothes.

In conversation with Sydb, I've decided I'm a cosmetics prude. If I had an 11 year old girl (lower school is 1-5), I would not be allowing her to wear artificial nails.

I think the reason the school is having to make such requests and rules at all is that lower school parents of girls seem to have lost their common sense, or their will to parent. I think I've earned my old-folks patch. ;)

They make artificial nails especially for younger kids - typically in pink and such, but properly sized for tiny hands (and the nails aren't quite as long as some of the adult ones). Just FYI.

"Nurse Beers" - heh. That just sounds wrong, you know? ;)
