Christmas vacation: Day 1

We're actually in Flar's car, so the Tom-Tom is a misnomer. I'll make an Audi icon tomorrow. ;)

My it's been a long day. I woke up early enough to be ready, but chose to sleep a little longer than made possible a long, lingering shower. I still have grubby fingers. (It's a lack of sleep/shower thing.) T picked me up to take me to Life Group, where I shared many leftovers from last night's Christmas celebration, and enjoyed much chatter, as well as serious sharing time.

Flar and Critter and TIgger picked me up shortly after we were done. The car was loaded to the gills, and of course I had my purse and a bag with the last of the snacks with me. Flar drove the first shift. We faced some traffic getting out of town. The entrance to the Hamburg Chik-Fil-A actually had a cop directing traffic for the driveway entrance. ;)

By about 5 o'clock, I requested a rest stop -- more for hand-washing (still grubby, I say!) and drinks purchasing, but using the facilities is always in order when there is the opportunity. Flar drove all the way to Atlanta, confronting much yucky traffic along the way. One of our stated vacation goals is to take as many pictures as is possible. Critter will use his Razr, I will use my Cool-Pix, Tigger his new Disney camera, and Flar his film camera. TIgger and I had lots of fun taking pictures in the back seat of the car.

We ate dinner at Pappasito's, where I got to request Feliz Navidad from the Mariachi Band, and find out the rest of the lyric that's been eluding me in the arrangement played on Kiss-Mas. (Felicidade - Happiness) I even got to slip a dollar past the lead guitarist's G-string, to tip him. ;) Flar and I shared a combination platter of lobster (his), shrimp brochette (mine, all mine!) and beef fajitas (ours); Critter had two enchiladas and Tigger ate chicken fajitas, no onions. At dinner, Critter figured out that the magic wand button adds a Disney character to the picture being taken. Much fun has been had with this feature already.

After dinner, I drove to the BP station to get more drinks, then to the Best Buy in Macon. Knight helped us locate it, and reminded us about holiday hours. Now we have spares of various left-behinds (Critter's Razr charger, my Treo charger, AA batteries for Tigger's camera), as well as another tip for Flar's iGo Car charger (I got the wrong tip for the Treo). While Critter and I got essentials in Best Buy, Tigger bought craft wire in Michael's, and black duct tape for Flar to repair a rip in his duffel (sigh).

The drive to Best Buy helped Flar decide to give Critter an earlier than planned shot at driving his car. Our subsequent drive the rest of the way to Valdosta has proven that he is more comfortable with Critter driving his car than with me driving it. I'm too used to the Beetle, and Critter usually drives that huge mini-van. ;) Too bad we didn't know this when there was still opportunity for me to have a Margarita at dinner. ;)

We're now in the hotel, charging up electronics, and bedding down for the night. The breakfast that comes with the room includes eggs-to-order, so I'm a happy camper.

Enough typing. Sleep now.

Christmas vacation: Day 2

The breakfast at the Marriott wasn't free, but it was yummy. I had two eggs over easy, potatoes, sausage, cantaloupe, biscuit and gravy. We got on the road by 9, with Critter driving first. He drove until we got to an oasis outside of Orlando, where we bought food and switched drivers. The toll plazas slowed us down; Flar is planning to take I-95 going back.

I finished the door net for between the dining room and the kitchen, and started working on the one for between the kitchen and family room. Tigger watched 2 hours of classic toons and played Starcraft after a short amount of conversation. More pictures were taken. We talked to Knight to ask a favor (Flar had asked Critter to shut down the computer in his office, and Critter forgot, so it was still popping and deleting mail), and Ro to wish her a Happy Birthday, and Mom, to arrange a time to talk on Christmas Day. Calls in the car are fun, because you get all four of us on speaker phone.

We are staying in a sumptuous condo in the northern part of Miami Beach: The Bath Club. It was (one of?) the first resorts to be built in the area, and has been rebuilt recently as luxury condos. Our condo is one being used by a realtor with whom Flar has a business relationship. No room service or maid service, but there's cable and wireless and clean beds. And lots and lots of space.

We ate at The Clevelander on South Beach, after stopping at Walgreen's. I'm coming down with Flar's cold, so I picked up Hall's and Advil (all I need thus far) and Nyquill (for later on the ship). We have to go back tomorrow to get time-release Sudafed (for later on the ship), as the pharmacy was closed, along with the behind-the-counter otc drugs. I'd rather take my own cold medicine aboard then take pot-luck from the gift shop.

Flar loves to walk along the beachside restaurants in South Beach, but I was worried about energy levels, so he paid to valet park by the restaurant. On our promenade, Tigger spotted a man doing "palm-igami." Since Tigger loves Origami, he wanted to tip him. I bought a rose, and we watched while he made an angel-fish for Tigger. Our waiter at Clevelander was very sweet, and found me a wine glass to hold the rose and angel-fish during our meal. The angel-fish "attacked" Critter with a cup of lemonade, when Critter tried to steal a slice of pizza from Tigger. Making the angel-fish Tigger's guard fish.

I was right about fading, and grateful not to have a walk to get back to the car. We're getting up earlyish in the morning, to get back to Sobe for breakfast at Cheeseburger, beach walking, and then embarkation.

And now for an early-to-bed, trying to fight this cold.
