My Great-grandmother, the war doxy

My great-grandmother is 106; 107 in insurance years, since her birthday is in June.

Sometimes I wonder how much she likes to just play with our minds. She doesn't have Alzheimer's, but there are days when she seems clearer than others, about understanding others. So I dont know if there's any non-Alzheimer's dementia working here.

Take this as my great-grandmother's weird sense of humour, or figure that it explains a lot about me.

Anyway, when my mom's friend was visiting today, the subject of the US being at war came up in conversation. Granny's response was: "Oh, no! We can't go to war! I'll have to spend the whole time on my back!"

(Like she ever really gets out of bed, much, these days...)

So L. drew the story out of her. According to Granny, she spent "the war" (that would be WW I, folks) living with six other girls in a house run by a mean man. Men would come to the house, and the man would decided which girl they got. And Granny got $3 a man.

oh my gosh

I won something else!

Two movies passes, and gift certificates to Lexington Hot Moon. Technically, I was channeling Critter.

He listens to WVLK 590AM while he does his homework, and he came running downstairs, excited that he knew the answer to today's Jeopardy question. We haven't been able to find the number for the station in the phone book, but there's a free call for Cingular customers.

I'd have handed him my phone, but then he asked me to call, instead.

The question: How many stars are on the Chinese Flag?
The answer: Five.

7th Grade Social Studies is concentrating on Asia. :)

Now we wait for the prize to come in the mail, and then figure out an appropriate time for Critter and Mom to go on their own date night. But, only if I stop calling it that. ;)

A calm spot in the evening

When I got home with the boys, I went into high speed. Flar was getting ready to go to this evening meeting he has once a month, and said not to plan dinner around him.

So I made Chicken n Dumplings. I still need to put together the calorie count on it. Hungry Jack flaky biscuits dissolve more than they dumpling, so perhaps it's creamy chicken soup.

I caught up on Live Journal while I was cooking, but my computer locked up with I tried to look at a page with political cartoons made out of movie posters. I haven't tried the page again, to see if it was that page, or just too much open at the same time. I tend to open new windows to read all the comments, and to make comments, while I'm reading my Friends view.

If you saw me in AIM and then I went away, that's why.

I've been running AIM more now, as a simpler way to communicate with Critter upstairs.

I'm disappointed that I didn't have Flar's clothes folded for him when he got home, but I picked flowers for the kitchen table: daffodils and pink hyacinth (thank you Wolf for helping me find the name). I've decided if I'm going to suffer from allergies, I might as well enjoy the view. ;)

And, now that I've reformatted my weekly list for increased readability in the text file, I've got to get to work on laundry.

A bump here, a scratch there

Okay, a tear on Dizzy's ear, a scratch on my hand, probably some scratches on Flar...

One of the other dogs got a good grip on Dizzy's ear, and tore open about a quarter square inch spot on it. Flar started the doctoring, but he needed my help. We ended up getting a cling-wrap gauze bandage on her ear, but she shucked it as soon as she went outside. She's going to sleep separately from the others tonight, and I'll take her to the vet tomorrow.

need to take the other dogs to the vet soon anyway, so we can get them all started on heartworm again. Freezes are behind us, and there were mosquitoes in Ted's car today! For that matter, we've killed three wasps so far in the kitchen. Gotta hunt up the wasp trap..
