Current Events: War?

I don't usually get all philosophical here, even though a journal is a wonderful place for just that kind of writing.

It turns out, I'm one of those silent people who "right-wing" journalists are calling a majority. I don't know about numbers. I know that peace activists truly believe in what they're saying, and are making themselves seen and heard.

See, I haven't been making myself seen or heard, because I just don't see this situation as clearly black or white. And it's really hard to speak out for wiping out some of the gray. A lot of the gray?

I read in CNN Breaking News this morning, that the US has advised the UN weapons inspector to leave Iraq. Bush has been saying that as of today, time has run out.

And I drove my kids to school. And left them there for the day as if everything is normal. Well, of course, that what we're supposed to do for our kids, right? Keep it normal? There's no concrete reason to do anything different anyway.

But what if the bombs do start dropping today, and what if there are retaliations in the US?

Mostly, what I do with my thinking is avoid. Avoid thinking about the possibility of war and its consequences at home. Hope for the best, as regards innocents abroad.

But I don't speak out against the war.

I just don't believe it's that simple.

Maybe we're silent because we're holding our breath, and can't say anything at all. Fortunately, God hears silent prayers.

Getting Organized

I'm thinking that I should try and organize a list in advance for the week, so I can see where I'm at...

Re-organizing. Heh

Okay, so I found something worthy to distract me from the list. And, technically it was part of the list. I'm breaking "update Quicken" out into its component parts for a feeling of accomplishment. Or at least to record what I've done.

Anyway, while sorting the mail, I opened and read the grade reports for both boys. And then proceeded to type all the commentary in for Flar. And sent an email off to Critter's English teacher, to ask a question about one of the comments. I'm feeling a bit intimidated about going into conferences on Friday by myself. Flar will still be in Brazil. I'd like for him to to tell me what questions he has, or better yet, engage the teacher in conversation directly, via email. We'll see.

The list:

    Monday - Pink
    Tuesday - Orange
    Wednesday - Yellow
    Thursday - Green
    Friday - Blue
    The Weekend - Purple
  • Update Quicken:
    • Sorted mail
    • Enter receipts, checks and deposits
    • Give new figures to Flar for decisions about what to pay
    • Post new bills
  • Typed up grade reports commentary for Flar to read before conferences on Friday; emailed
  • Fold last week's laundry

The ickiest bit is out of the way

I really needed to get that done, so Flar can decide what to do with the funds we have available. The rest of Quicken is detail work, which doesn't bother me so much.

Now for a quick lunch before I go shopping.

Still a Techno Mom

But Critter helped. ;)

Ooh, ooh, Wal-Mart has their DVD schlock bin going again! I hope I selected well for Ted.

$15 got me a pretty full-featured universal remote control. In the process of programming it, Critter figured out why the DSS audio channel wasn't playing through the receiver anymore, and fixed it. And through sheer stubbornness, I found the right button to cycle through the inputs on the receiver.

And now, I'm listening to show tunes in the kitchen, while Tigger watches the extra materials on the Inspector Gadget DVD, with overhead sound in the family room. Whee!

I'm waiting until later to more carefully read the section on setting up the remote control in home theatre mode.

And now I'm going to finish up the Quicken bits before starting supper.
