bundled up, walkabout, snow

Entries written while travelling

I'm home from my travels now, caught up on live journal and email, and ready to post to live journal. While I was gone, I wrote some about my trip:

I didn't write anymore while I was gone, so I'll try to write the rest out now.

figure out what I left to do after I got back and get on that.

why do I torture myself?

I subscribe to Delta's Weekly Web Fares notifications. I don't know why. It seems an unwritten law that if there is a good fare, I will already have unbreakable commitments for that weekend.

Domestic Travel Dates: February 15 - 18, 2003

Cincinnati, OH (CVG) to:
-- Des Moines, IA (DSM) - $108
-- Houston-Bush, TX (IAH) - $128
-- Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN (MSP) - $118
-- San Francisco, CA (SFO) - $188
-- St. Louis, MO (STL) - $88

These fares are generally reciprocal. But if anyone wanted to visit this weekend, there's this pesky chess tournament on Saturday. Ah well.

Someday, one of these lists will pop with places I want to visit, it'll be a free weekend, and I'll have the money to go.

It could happen.

It's 49°F in this part of the house. The heating contractor hasn't gotten the part they need to fix the air handler. On the bright side, it's only this part of the house that's so cold.

I slept in this morning because I could. It's mid-winter break, which means no morning wake up time responsibilities. Flar had a meeting in Louisville today, so he had the car (mine being in the body shop). He picked up the material for the chess bags, so I didn't have to go out at all.

When I got up, I had breakfast and then escaped back into the warm part of the house. I finished another book, Practical Demonkeeping, and then Flar was home with the material, so I girded up for the cold. The sewing machine is in the part of the house with the broken air-handler. I'd already donned ribbed velour leggings, so I put a pair of sweats on over that. My Christmas slippers are plenty warm, and a hat to stop heat from escaping.

I turned on all the lights and of course set the iron to high, and got to work on making the bags. I was going to time myself, as I'd estimated it as two hour job, but I got interrupted enough that I don't know how much time it took. I think it ended up being a three hour job -- I'd forgotten how slow I am at ironing seams.

While I was working on the bags, I got Critter to fix Chicken and Dumplings for dinner. I forgot the worscestershire suace and the cream of chicken soup, but it turned out well, albeit more brothy than usual. We watched Like Mike during dinner, and after I ate, I finished sewing the bags together. Then, I read more chapters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to the boys, while I strung the bags.

Which leaves me free to make valentines tomorrow afternoon.

I haven't heard from the body shop yet, so I don't know when I get my car back, although they'd hoped to be done as early as today. I'll call in the morning. Flar is driving me to bowling, and either I'm getting a ride home from one of the bowlers, or he'll pick me up, and I'll drop him at his meeting. The latter choice means picking him up later, of course.

Flar opened his present from Gaucha today. I was a very nice bone-handled set of Brazilian barbecue swords, along with a wall-mounted case for them, which doubles as a cutting board, and a knife, sharpener and fork. Knight and Cinder and I are going in on a present for him that I'm ordering today. He said he wants to remain surprised about what it is.
